Our Analysis and Test Results
The Lasko 755320 claimed an award for its ability to heat a small area and get it done fast. As soon as you turn this device on, it begins raising the temperatures in the immediate vicinity. Before long, it warms up the entire room as fast as any other top-tier space heaters that we've seen.
Performance Comparison
Personal Heat
Because the most common use of a space heater is to warm up a small area to make a person more comfortable, the first assessment that we conducted was to see how well each model performed in this aspect. We subjectively judged each model's warming capabilities both under a desk and in a living room five feet away from a recliner.
The Lasko is one of the highest performing space heaters for personal heating that we've reviewed. On its highest setting, it's even a little too intense when placed under a desk. When we tested the Lasko in a living room setting, it was easy to feel the airflow while sitting down several feet away.
Convenience
Many factors play into how convenient a space heater is to use. These devices can be as simple and bare-bones as possible, or they can come with a suite of features and settings. For this metric, we carefully studied every detail, down to how intuitive the symbols on the buttons of the remote control are. The Lasko was one of our top-scoring space heaters for this assessment.
Unlike a stationary-style heater, the Lasko boasts an oscillating feature that helps disperse heat throughout an area. It also has a timer that goes up to eight hours in one-hour increments. The remote included with the heater is one of our favorites. It fits well in your hand, it's stylish, and it's fairly obvious what the symbols are trying to convey.
Several of the heaters that we've gotten our hands on have the option to crank the heat to 90 degrees or more, and the Lasko is no exception. However, we found its temperature settings to be especially innovative, as they go down to 39 degrees. While it may not be intuitive to desire conditions with that low of a level of warmth, sometimes the only reason you need a space heater is to keep pipes, liquids, or other belongings from freezing. If that's the case, it would be a waste of energy to heat the area to higher temperatures.
Small Room Heating
For our next set of experiments, we measured how much each model could raise the temperature in a 161 square foot room, checking on the readings once every twenty minutes up to an hour.
We were sure to start the assessment with the room temperature within a degree or two for each model. We didn't want the temperatures outside the window of the room to affect the assessment, so we took care to ensure the outside temperatures were right around freezing.
This test showed fairly strong results for the Lasko. This model raised the temperature 6.4 degrees Fahrenheit in the first 20 minutes and increased room temperature by 10.8 degrees after a full hour.
Power Consumption
To calculate the dollar amount that it takes to run each heater, we utilized a wattmeter. We were then able to determine how much it costs to run each model for 10 hours, 24 hours, 30 days, and so on using the national average price of kilowatts per hour.
The Lasko is not the most efficient space heater that we've tested. It uses a measured amount of 1.36 kilowatts per hour — which translates to $1.79 over 10 hours — to run this space heater on its highest setting at 13.17 cents per kilowatt-hour. That may not seem like much, but when running it for a month at 10 hours a day, it will cost $53.70. That said, depending on your current heating system efficiency, it may save you money to run a space heater in the room you are using rather than heat the whole house or office.
Should You Buy the Lasko Ceramic Digital Tower?
The Lasko is among the best space heaters we've tested. It performed well when heating an office space, a living room, and a small room. A host of features add convenience, including its digital display, ergonomic remote control, and oscillation setting. The only main drawback we could find is that it is a bit inefficient and expensive to run, but that's to be expected with this powerful heater. Even considering operation cost, the Lasko Ceramic Digital Tower is well worth its price and is a good value, especially if you want a powerful heater.
What Other Space Heaters Should You Consider?
The Lasko Ceramic Digital Tower stands out at the top of our selection for exceptional performance, functionality, and overall value. While models like the Vornado VH200 may save you a few dollars per month based on average operating cost, they are not nearly as efficient at heat output. The Amazon Basics 1500W presents a great balance of price and performance for the budget-conscious shopper.
