Jason Wanlass

Jason Wanlass has a passion for technology, gear, and writing. A former journalist, he has enjoyed a successful freelance career at GearLab since 2017. He is an avid backpacker and hiker and has tested and reviewed countless outdoor products for the GearLab team. Jason more recently expanded to the TechGear team and is enjoying putting his knowledge and passion for all-things-tech to use in finding the best gadgets on the market. Born and raised in Utah, Jason also spent time living in Washington and Idaho before returning to his home state and planting permanent roots. He is an avid traveler and is always planning his next great adventure. From satellite communication devices to electricity converters, he enjoys implementing technology in his travels. He's spent time in France, Iceland, Argentina, Chile, Nepal, Dubai, Haiti, Mexico, Canada, Slovenia and Croatia. During his travels, he enjoys learning about other cultures and how technology is implemented into daily life. One of his favorite experiences took place high in a Himalayan village near the Tibetan border. He spent an hour with an elderly Nepalese woman as she taught him the intricacies of weaving yak yarn on a 200-year-old wooden loom. Closer to home, Jason enjoys using technology around the house, especially when it comes to cooking. His most recent purchases include high-end cookware and the latest Ninja Blender. His favorite cuisine to cook is Indian Food.
