AmazonBasics Stainless Steel 1.7L Review
Pros: Sharp design, minimal footprint, inexpensive
Cons: No adjustability, no temperature holding
Our Analysis and Test Results
This pitcher-style kettle is basic, affordable, and has a stylish design. However, it only has one setting — boil — so it's a bit of a one-trick pony. This machine boils water at a decent rate, so its trick is a good one. Additionally, it has an automatic shut-off feature, which can be a pro or con depending on your needs. All and all, this basic machine is a good fit for general use hot drink consumers.
The AmazonBasics kettle boils 4 cups of water in 4 minutes and 33 seconds — about average for the class. At our lab's elevation, water boils at ~202º F, so this time will be a bit longer for those of you closer to sea-level. For consistency, all boil tests are run with 57º F tap water.
The AmazonBasics is a pitcher-style kettle and thus is not a great pouring machine. What do we mean by good and bad pouring? Slow pouring is the domain of the craft coffee folks as proper extraction (a.k.a. brewing) requires an exact pouring duration and volume. Controlled discharge isn't where pitcher-style machines shine, and the AmazonBasics is no exception. That said, the handle design of this machine is more balanced, thus making pouring easier than others of the same style.

Given the consistent performance and low price of this kettle, we find it to be a good value. However, this assessment only holds true if the model meets your needs. This is a general use machine and will meet the needs of the general user. However, if you need a higher-end kettle that controls temperature and pours more smoothly than you will likely be shopping for a new machine in short order.
As the name implies, the AmazonBasics kettle is a basic machine. It has a sharp look worthy of the countertop real estate it will take up. More importantly, it boils a respectable rate and has an amply-sized water reservoir. All in all, this is more than enough kettle of most people's needs, and it comes at a very reasonable price.
